The streets of Strasbourg came alive as the 2025 Strasbourg Carnival (Carnaval de Strasbourg 2025) marked the transition from winter to spring.
Usually held under unpredictable weather conditions, this year’s carnival was blessed with warm sunshine! It had been a long time since the city had experienced such a pleasant and mild day for the event.
2025 Theme: "Animal Tales"
The theme for this year’s carnival was "Les contes animaliers" (Animal Tales), chosen to celebrate Strasbourg’s designation as the World Capital of Books. The streets were adorned with decorations inspired by famous animal stories, making the city feel like a fairytale world.
Why Didn’t the Parade Start at 3:11 PM?
Traditionally, the Strasbourg Carnival parade begins at 3:11 PM, a tradition rooted in the Rhine region’s carnival customs, where festivities officially begin on November 11 at 11:11 AM.
However, the 2025 parade started precisely at 3:00 PM instead. The reason? That remains a small mystery!
Crowds, Smiles, and a Festive Atmosphere
The beautiful weather brought out large crowds, with children beaming with joy as they watched the parade. People lined the streets, waving and celebrating together.
Unlike carnivals known for extravagant floats and costumes, the Strasbourg Carnival retains a charming, handcrafted feel, reminiscent of a small village festival, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the city.
Looking Forward to Spring in Strasbourg
Though the weather remains unpredictable, spring will soon arrive in full bloom after Easter.
As the days grow longer, the cobbled streets and historic buildings of Strasbourg will shine even brighter under the spring sun.
